Industrial Designer // Project Lead
packaging created with Liz Alexander

challenge
travel journaling is popular, but carrying tools is bulky
goal
create a lightweight, “everything you need” tool
research
talking with users about how they journal
discoveries: tools must be portable, straight lines only come from tracing, drawing circles is frustrating
finding popular layouts
ideation + iteration
exploring different forms
a transparent plastic was important for creating aesthetic layouts
figuring out where different functions can go
implementation
building spec sheets to send to manufacturers
the tool creates circle graphs, check lists, straight lines, works as a bone folder, and more

impact
the product was best selling for that quarter
bought by Joann, Walmart, and Michaels to sell in store

research
talking with users about how they journal
honing in on assets that are difficult to create
discoveries: pockets are great for Instax images and keeping found objects safe
ideation + iteration
building off of the brand’s popular punchboard line
ideating around a tool that can make a pocket with and without flaps
testing cutting curves to create the optimal shape
implementation
i worked with an overseas supplier on manufacturing the tool
the tool creates over 100 sizes of pockets in two styles

Industrial Designer // Project Lead

challenge
create a SKU for the summer 2016 season
goal
design a purse for our consumer (older women) within the season’s trends
research
talking with women (60yrs) about what they like in a bag
looking at WGSN trends and inspo
discoveries: this audience prefers larger bags and their bags are quite heavy
ideation + iteration
exploring different forms
figuring out the best materials
implementation
QA-ing samples
finalizing tech packs
the shoulder strap is padded to create less stress on shoulder

impact
unfortunately the bag didn’t make it to market due to the company’s closure
however, i gave the sample to a target user and she loved the aesthetic as well as the comfortable fit
